Scare fest at Shankill Castle

Between the haunted castle and the spooky graveyard, Halloween is set to be very scary this year at Shankill Castle, Paulstown, Co Kilkenny. There are a variety of activities for all ages, but not much for the faint of heart.

A series of workshops is available for children where they can make their own magic wands and writing quills while learning about trees and birds, or they make their own funky eco-costume out of everyday recycled materials.

Most spooky of all is the spine-chilling ScareTrail led by Shankill Castle’s resident ghost.

Visitors will be taken to the eeriest parts of the haunted castle, dating from Norman times, and around the ruins of the early Christian church and graveyard, which gave the castle its name. All of the skeletons will be out of Shankill Castle’s closet with these exclusive tours, as they explore parts of the house that are not in the regular castle tour.

The Scare Fest is in conjunction with the food festival Savour Kilkenny and there will be a feast where guests can enjoy a scrumptious four course meal.

The evening starts with a champagne reception in the drawing room where residents past may appear unexpectedly. Dinner will be served in the dining room by a host of strange characters. Complementary wine will be served with every course.
