Track equipment funding for Bishop’s Demesne

The Minister of State for Tourism and Sport, Michael Ring has announced funding for a further local authority-backed sports project in Kilkenny.

Some €55,000 has been allocated for the Bishop’s Demesne project. This funding will help finance an exercise track with outdoor equipment. It is a further allocation of funding for Kilkenny for sporting facilities which are specifically designed to boost participation in sport.

Kilkenny Fine Gael Senator John Paul Phelan welcomed the announcement stating, “these projects will benefit their local communities and help even more young people get involved in sports across Kilkenny city and county.

“All the projects earmarked under the programme are designed specifically to encourage people to take part in sport, or to try out a new sporting activity. They include playing surfaces, outdoor gym equipment and floodlighting. These follow on from allocations to other projects announced at the start of the month.

“Although this is low-level funding on a small-scale, I hope that each investment will bring about real improvements in people’s lifestyles, health and well-being and help support and sustain the efforts of many sporting enthusiasts, most of them volunteers, within our communities.

“Kilkenny is renowned as a sports- mad county and these supports for various projects across the county will help foster sports other than hurling and get more young people in particular active in their communities, out and about and feeling better.”
