Kilkenny’s Sue Ryder Charity Shop on Kieran Street in the city will re-open its doors for business on Friday last, following a ceremony for the newly-revamped premises.
Mayor David Fitzgerald will officially cut the ribbon at 12pm this afternoon.
Drink and finger-food will be provided for those attending the ceremony, courtesy of Gerry Rafter from the Rafter-Dempseys pub on Friary Street.
The reason for the ‘re-launch’ is to officially recognise the amount of work that has been put in to the shop in the past year, and formally announce that that one of the oldest shops in Kilkenny has been revamped.
Margaret Egan took over the running of the shop last year.
“I would like to take this opportunity to thank all the volunteers for their wonderful support and cooperation, which has enable our Sue Ryder shio to flourish since I took over in September 2010,” said Ms Egan.
Also, a big thanks to all our customers and those who donate to the shop.”
The work of the Sue Ryder Foundation in Ireland began in 1978. The charity has established residences for the elderly in Kilkenny, Carlow, Laois, Dublin and Tipperary, with several other projects in the pipeline.
The charity’s aim is to provide sheltered housing and care for the elderly and for those unable to cope on their own.
