Two Cats nominated for Hurler of the Year

In addition to an impressive haul of 14 All-Star award nominations, two Kilkenny players have been shortlisted for the coveted GAA GPA Hurler of the Year award.

Michael Fennelly and Tommy Walsh are two of the three nominees for the highest individual accolade in inter-county hurling. The only other nominee is Tipperary half back Padraic Maher.

The Kilkenny All-Ireland winning duo were selected by the All-Star selection committee steering group, and the overall winners will be chosen by inter-county players and announced at the banquet event at Convention Centre Dublin next Friday, October 21.

Imposing Shamrocks midfielder Fennelly won Player of the Month for August, while inspirational Tullaroan half back Walsh scooped the Player of the Month for September, with his dominating performance against Tipperary in the All-Ireland final.

The All-Stars banquet event, which takes place at the Convention Centre Dublin next Friday evening, will be screened live on RTÉ 1 television. A limited number of tickets are still on sale to the general public for the upcoming ceremony.

The All-Star football and hurling teams will be presented with their awards on the evening, and the Player of the Year and Young Player of the Year Awards in both football and hurling in addition to the Christy Ring, Nicky Rackard and Lory Meagher Players of the Year will also be announced on the night.

Next week’s Kilkenny Advertiser features a look at the individual nominations for the awards, and our predictions on who will make up the 15 on the night.
