Minister Phil Hogan has revealed that Kilkenny County Council has received funding of €80,950 under the Sports Capital grant scheme for the provision of Tone Zones at five locations throughout the county.
Tone Zones, which provide outdoor exercise areas suitable for all ages, will be alongside or adjacent to existing amenity areas where people can take time out from their walks to use the exercise equipment provided. They will be located in Kilkenny city, Ferrybank, Callan, Castlecomer, and Thomastown.
“Kilkenny County Council will now proceed to procure the equipment and to prepare the sites with a view to completing the project by the end of 2011,” said Minister Hogan.
“The Tone Zones will complement existing amenities and support the pursuit of an active and healthy lifestyle.”
