All pets welcome to attend blessing

When it happens in some parishes dogs, cats, hamsters, and even horses have been known to turn up.

And all animals are welcome this Saturday, October 1, when St Canice’s Church will celebrate the Feast of St Francis of Assisi with an unusual ceremony – a blessing of animals.

The ceremony, which honours St Francis’ love for all creatures, will involve a special prayer called The Blessing of Pets. The animals will also be gently sprinkled with holy water.

All pets are welcome to attend the ceremony in the grounds of St Canice’s Church at 3pm on Saturday October 1. They are asked to bring their owners with them.
