News from the Village

Senior

The Village seniors fell short to a strong Ballyhale Shamrocks side in the Kilkenny senior hurling league final on a 1-10 to 2-13 scoreline.

The southerners started much brighter than the Village, with Ballyhale holding a 1-7 to 0-2 lead at half time, playing against the breeze. The Village boys showed battling spirit and determination as they took the game to Ballyhale, and reduced the deficit to two points at one stage during the second half.

In the end, Ballyhale Shamrocks were crowned champions, running out six-point winners.

The Village seniors now turn their focus to the upcoming championship quarter-final. Best wishes to the entire squad and management team of Niall Rigney, Fran Whelan and Adrian Finan.

Minor

Congratulations to the Village minor B panel on scoring a 2-9 to 1-9 win over Dunnamaggin in the hurling championship quarter final.

This was a tremendous win built on a foundation of great drive and workrate from all the Village players throughout the pitch. The Village boys will now move on to play Cloneen in the semi-final.

Best of luck to the players and mentors involved. The Village A squad will face their first big championship game this weekend when they clash with Barrow Rangers in the championship quarter-final this Friday in Clara at 6pm.

U-14 championship

Hard luck to the u-14 A panel in the championship semi-final, as they bowed out to a strong O’Loughlin Gaels side.

The Village boys

showed tremendous determination, as they took the game to the current Féile Na nGael champions. The game was a very tight and tense affair with both sides trading scores. O’Loughlin Gaels led by one point at half time.

In the end the Village had to concede to their opposition. The Village backs were outstanding throughout the entire game, with each man working incredibly hard and keeping O’Loughlins to just four points from play throughout the game.
