The chairman of Kilkenny County Council has said that the Dunmore Waste Disposal and Recycling Centre has evolved considerably over the past few years, ever since the landfill operation ceased.
During a recent visit to the facility, Cathaoirleach Paul Cuddihy praised the centre’s progress. The facility in Dunmore not only accepts recycling materials from householders and businesses, but also operates a waste disposal service.
Cllr Cuddihy, who was there to officially launch a new information leaflet on the facility, was given a tour by the director of environment services, Philip O’Neill, and was assisted by the staff of the centre.
The new leaflet was widely distributed around the county this week, to remind people of the centre’s services and to show them how economical it can be to dispose of recycling and refuse responsibly.
As well as the various skips for visitors to segregate their recyclables, two new bays have been installed over the last 18 months to cater for bulky refuse waste. Cars with trailers can have ample space to pull in beside the waste compactors with staff always close by to assist customers with unloading.
Philip O’Neill said the number of regular customers visiting the centre proves that it is a valuable service to the community. Costs are always a key factor with regards to waste disposal, and the centre provides an economical means to dispose of recyclables and refuse.
The information leaflet will be distributed throughout the county this week, and copies will be available from the Environment Section of Kilkenny County Council on John Street and in all local libraries.
