Accolade for Butler House

Butler house in Kilkenny has been short-listed as one of the top 10 hotels which ‘best define Ireland’.

This summer Newstalk’s Fionn Davenport created a campaign called ‘Defining Ireland’ to find the best attractions, places, and activities across the country, ‘the very things that say we are proud to be Irish….’

Newstalk listeners nationwide were then asked to submit their suggestions. On Tuesday morning September 6, following a two-month campaign, Butler House on 16 Patrick St emerged on the top 10 shortlist alongside Parknasilla Resort Hotel in Kenmare, Ballymaloe House in East Cork, and Lough Eske Castle in Donegal.

This accolade further reiterates that Butler House, the 18th century dower house of Kilkenny Castle, has established itself as a premier venue for overnight accommodation. It has 13 beautifully appointed guest rooms, including a junior suite and a presidential suite. The presidential suite has accommodated the past three presidents of Ireland during their term in office.

Butler House is a property of immense historical significance in a prime city centre location. It is the only accommodation venue in the city with direct access to the Castle Yard through its formal walled garden. The garden is an attraction in its own right and enhances the appeal of the house to visitors.
