Comer Credit Union worker charged with theft

A Castlecomer woman was arraigned on 24 charges including theft and fraud at Carlow Circuit Court this week.

Castlecomer woman Noreen Foreman appeared before Judge Olive Buttimer on 12 charges of theft and 12 charges of false accounting.

During her arraignment, Ms Foreman a former worker at the Credit Union on Kilkenny Street in Castlecomer was read a list of her charges. On various dates between and including August 5, 2004 and September, 30, 2005, Ms Foreman is charged with false accounting contrary to Section 10 of the Criminal Justice Theft and Fraud Offences ) Act 2001.

On twelve separate dates during late 2004 and 2005, she is charged with intentionally for the purpose of profit, falsifying the credit union cash control sheets. On the same period of activity, she is also charged with actual theft contrary to Section 4 of the same Act of amounts varying from €1,000 to €4,000. The cash was listed as the property of Noel Murphy manager of the Credit Union in Castlecomer.

Judge Buttimer remanded Ms Foreman on her own recognisance until the next session of the court while she undergoes a psychiatric and probation officer’s assessment for reports to be supplied to the court.
