Win or lose next Sunday the Kilkenny senior hurling team will be given a Civic Reception on Monday night. The venue as usual will be the Market Yard car park where the team will be welcomed by the Mayor and members of the borough and county councils.
The team is expected to arrive at MacDonagh Train Station at 6pm and will proceed by open top bus to the Market Yard. The route will be via John Street, John’s Bridge, Rose Inn Street, The Parade, High Street, and Parliament Street.
Fans should note that access to the train station will be limited. The best vantage point will be at the Market Yard. The entertainment will begin in the market yard at 5.15pm approx and there will also be three big screens in the market yard from 5pm showing all the action.
The safety of all attending is of paramount importance, and in order to ensure the enjoyment of all attending, people are requested to act in a responsible manner by co-operating with Gardai, Civil Defence officers, and stewards.
Parking
Car parking will be available at Ormonde Street Car Park, MacDonagh Junction Car Park and Kilkenny Borough Council car parks at Fair Green, St Mary’s and Dean Street. Parking in the Ormond Street car park will be at the reduced rate of €1 between 6pm. and 10pm. Parking in the borough council car parks will be free from 5pm. onwards.
Parking restrictions will be in place in the Market Yard from 4pm onwards and traffic restrictions will be in place throughout the day in Kilkenny city to facilitate the Homecoming.
Pedestrian Access to the Market Yard will be via Kieran Street at Kytelers Inn, Parliament Street at Bank of Ireland and Bateman Quay via John’s Bridge.
As with all events of this nature there will be a large number of children in the Market Yard and in the interest of their safety, and the safety of all attending, fans are asked to adhere to any instructions given, be it by signage, stewards, gardai, civil defence, or by public announcement.
