The ‘Kilkenny Fat Cats’ are a group of amateur cyclists from Ballyfoyle, Muckalee and Conahy who got together after the untimely death of their good friend, Kevin Kealy, on August 5, 2010.
Kevin was only 44 years old when he succumbed to cancer.
The group cycled from Kevin’s grave at Mothel, Ballyfoyle to Croke Park last September 4, 2010 for All-Ireland Sunday and in cycling the 120 kilometres over €6,000 was raised for Cancer Research and the Carlow / Kilkenny Home Care Team.
This Saturday September 3, they hope to repeat the cycle and in doing double the money raised last year.
The group has grown considerably fatter this year, expanding nicely from 11 to 50 riders.
Preparation is well underway with up to three training sessions per week reducing the overall weight of the team (approx 4.5 ton )
The group will leave Mothel again this Saturday morning, heading for Castlecomer and then joining another local group at Clogh before undertaking the main part of the tour to Croker.
