A community group behind the amphitheatre in Kilmanagh is this weekend inviting the public to enjoy the beauty of the old quarry and the very best in music.
The ever popular Ceol & Stroll runs at Ballykeeffe Amphitheatre in Kilmanagh this Saturday August 27, and begins at the earlier time of 2pm. The National Parks and Wildlife Service personnel have teamed up with volunteers at the site for their first ever visit to An Seomra Glas — a secret classroom nestled deep in the woods. This event is aimed at children and will run from 2pm till 6pm.
A guided walk follows at 6pm. The evening begins with a guided walk through Ballykeeffe Nature Reserve in the company of local historians who will point out the myriad of interesting things that make Ballykeeffe wood a delightful place to amble through the flora, fauna, the mass rock, Seomra Glas and much more.
This should whet the appetite for a feast of family fun, food and music which will follow in Ballykeeffe Amphitheatre which is conveniently beside the Nature Reserve. The newly-erected canopy there will not only gladden your eye but will also provide an umbrella should the summer weather disappear for a while. No less than three groups will take to the stage to provide musical entertainment with local outfit Ignition getting the show off to a rocking start. They will be followed by a completely different sound when Alexandra Dewberry and friends plat a variety of light classical standards the main act of the evening are The Boys from Friary Street who promise a reprise of last year’s rousing trad session.
Literally there is something for all tastes and ages at Ballykeeffe this Saturday August 27. While the walk is free, there is a small fee for the barbecue and music. It’s €10 for adults and under 12’s €6.
