Crazed woman attacks residents in quiet estate

The residents of a Kilkenny housing estate on the Castlecomer Road were terrified in their own homes on Tuesday evening last when a crazed woman attacked a number of people and homes.

The woman approached a group of neighbours on the road in The Weir and asked one of them for a phone. Having been told she didn’t have one, the woman appeared to get into a frenzy and attacked the lady, assaulting her, pulling her hair and hitting her. Shocked at the turn of events, the residents dispersed, terrified into their own homes and locked their doors, however, the woman followed one resident up her drive and around the side of her house.

She began to pick up pots of flowers and fling them at the windows of the woman’s home breaking several windows in the process.

The woman and her two children were terrified in the house at the time and in a bid to prevent any more damage the woman went out to try and calm her down.

The woman attempted to throw a pottery plant holder at the resident but failed and it smashed onto the ground.

With the help of a male neighbour, the woman was grabbed and wrestled to the ground where she was held until the guards arrived.

“It was an absolutely terrifying ordeal for me and my children,” said the resident. “My eight-year old is traumatised and I don’t know how she will get over it. We are all very shaken. The incident has left us all feeling unsafe in our own homes,” she said.

It is understood the woman lived across the road in rented accommodation with friends. She had not been known to the Gardai prior to her attack on the residents of the Weir.

She is also understood to be in the country legally and working in the city.

Gardai are investigating the incident and the woman was arrested and questioned in relation to several public order offences. The Gardai have said that all matters are being investigated and the woman is due to appear in court next month in relation to the charges.
