Blow for Young Irelands
Young Irelands Gowran’s hopes of talented attacker Sean Kehoe returning have been dashed with a recurrence of the dreaded cruciate knee ligament injury.
The former Kilkenny minor county star suffered the injury last year, but his plans for a return to club action came to an end recently with a recurrence of the knee problem.
It comes as a huge blow to both the player and his club.
Boost for Conahy Shamrocks
Conahy Shamrocks, who are at the foot of Group B in the Michael Lyng Motors Intermediate Hurling League, have received a timely boost with the return of industrious midfielder Martin Fitzpatrick from Australia.
The consistent Fitzpatrick has spent the past two years working in the southern hemisphere.
Conahy play neighbours St Lachtain’s in the final Group B game next weekend. A victory over their injury-hit opponents could lift them out of the relegation zone.
Barrow Rangers to miss trio
Emigration is about to affect another Kilkenny GAA club, with three prominent club hurlers leaving the Paulstown/Goresbridge parish.
Martin Dormer and Kevin McDonald are heading to Australia, while Shane McEvoy is going to New Zealand.
Barrow Rangers came within an ace of winning the Kilkenny Junior Championship in 2010, suffering a defeat to John Lockes, Callan in a replay. The loss of this talented trio will severely dent their title ambitions this year.
Danesfort lose and gain
Danesfort GAA have embarked on a huge field development plan that will provide two new pitches, an astro turf pitch and ball wall along with new club rooms.
It is expected that the pitches will be levelled and the grass seed sown in the next two weeks.
On the playing side the club is about to temporarily lose two very popular players. Hard-working defender Jim Phelan has gone on an agricultural exchange to New Zealand, while Martin McMahon will leave for Australia next month.
The club have already lost Tim Murphy, Tommy and Aaron Dunne, and camogie star Julieanne Woodcock, to Australia in recent years.
On the plus side, Padraig Forristal has returned to full training with the intermediate squad. The free-striding forward has been battling a knee problem all season, and missed the club’s recent clash with Graiguenamanagh.
Oisin Daly has returned from the United States to link up with the squad for the remainder of the season.
