O’Loughlin Gaels news

Under 10s win in Tipperary

Last Saturday, the O'Loughlin Gaels under 10 boys returned home to St John's Parish from St Mary's Clonmel, with the Tom Maher Perpetual Cup after five successive victories.

O'Loughlin beat the hosts, St Mary's, in the opening game, overcame a physical Cashel King Cormacs team in round two, and then beat Ballylooby/Castlegrace to top the group.

The semi-final saw O'Loughlins pitted against Graigue Ballycallan, and a good first half performance set them up for a win. For the final, the Kilkenny boys were faced with the youngsters from Cork's famous Glen Rovers. Showing typical O'Loughlin Gaels championship fighting spirit, they tore into the game and scored excellent points and three goals by the break. There was to be no way back for the Glen in the second half, as O'Loughlins piled on the pressure, winning on a final scoreline of 4-08 to 1-01.

Club wishes Brian Hogan the best

Everyone in St John’s parish and O' Loughlin Gaels GAA club wishes Kilkenny captain and O’Loughlin Gaels man Brian Hogan the very best in the All-Ireland hurling semi final against Waterford in Croke Park on Sunday.

Hogan is captain of Kilkenny after being nominated by O’Loughlin Gaels, after they won the Kilkenny senior hurling championship last October. He is hoping to emulate his club colleague and current O’Loughlin Gaels selector, Andy Comerford, who captained Kilkenny to All Ireland success in 2002.

Junior B team defeated

A depleted Junior B team was defeated in the Northern semi final last weekend, by James Stephens on a score of 1-18 to 1-16.

On 47 minutes O'Loughlins were three points ahead, after great work by Michael Henneberry, David Burke, Stephen Tyrrell, and Barry Hogan. They looked to have overcome their city rivals after a ding dong battle.

But David Burke went off injured, and the O’Loughlins’ attack seemed to lose all impetus. The Village scored the last five points, which included a penalty and three frees from Jack McGrath, who scored a total of 1-12 (10f ).

Seniors in Aylward Cup final

The O’Loughlin Gaels senior team qualified for the county board-organised Aylward Cup final, by beating St Martins 1-19 to 1-18 on Thursday night in Muckalee.

They are due to play John Lockes of Callan in the final, the date of which has not been fixed yet.

Pat Carroll signs up for more

O’Loughlin Gaels GAA Club is indebted to club main sponsor, Pat Carroll, who has continued his very generous three-year sponsorship deal with the club.

The deal will see Mr Carroll's successful off-licence and bar's logo on the O’Loughlin Gaels senior teams jerseys again, for this championship season. During the year Mr Carroll also contributed handsomely to the Féile na nGael team who won the All-Ireland hurling division one title and the All-Ireland football division five title.
