Katie Power back running
Good news for the Kilkenny senior camogie squad is that Katie Power has resumed light training. The talented Piltown woman battled through a serious knee injury to get back to this stage of her recovery.
Kilkenny will play Galway in the All Ireland senior camogie semi-final on Saturday August 13 in Nowlan Park and if Power’s recovery from her injury goes according to plan she may be able to take some part in that game. However a more realistic date for a full return to top class camogie would be mid-September for the All Ireland final, should Kilkenny qualify.
The All Ireland senior camogie semi - finals go ahead in Nowlan Park on Saturday 13th of August with Kilkenny playing Galway at 2pm and Wexford the defending All Ireland champions playing Cork at 3.30pm.
Head to head results in the league
The fifth and final round of the senior and intermediate leagues will be played in the middle of next month with places in the league and shield final up for grabs along with the dreaded relegation zone positions also in the melting pot.
Scoring difference will decide many of the positions but the result of the head to head games between the two teams who finish on the same number of points will kick in to decide the league positions.
If the game between the two teams ended in a draw and both teams are equal on points and scoring difference then the team that scored the most over the five games in the campaign will finish higher in the league.
St Lachtain’s injury blow
St Lachtain’s Freshford have been dealt a major blow with the loss of inspirational full back John Costelloe following a work accident.
The powerful and inspirational defender received a serious hand injury recently that is likely to rule him out for the rest of the season.
Costelloe has been a key player for the Freshford men for a number of years and was probably their most consistent performer over the past three seasons that saw the club reach unprecedented heights, winning county intermediate and All Ireland titles in 2009 and 2010.
All hurling people in the county wish him a speedy recovery.
The 2012 minor campaign begins
Kilkenny bowed out of the All Ireland minor hurling championship last weekend when they lost 0 - 15 to 0 - 9 to Waterford in the quarter-final. There are 19 of this year’s panel under 17, so next year’s minor squad is already in focus. All those players eligible for next year’s minor panel, who did not play in this year’s minor championship, will now join up with the current under 17 development squad for the upcoming inter-county tournaments. The under 16 squad will be playing in the Arrabawn Tournament in Tipperary next month and that will also be an opportunity to see what talent is coming through the ranks.
These tournaments will give the Kilkenny minor team manager Adrian Ronan an early insight into what talent is available for the 2012 campaign.
