The 33rd Annual Festival of Golf started with great excitement last weekend in Castlecomer.
The initial event as always was the four-person team event which ran over Friday and Saturday and this event was followed on Sunday with a Men’s 18h Singles Stableford. Both competitions were extremely well supported with huge numbers playing and enjoying the course which was in excellent condition. There is still a comprehensive schedule of events over the next week with information and timesheets available on 056 4441139.
Full Catering available daily. Non GUI golfers welcome to play in 9h evening competitions. Early bird for visitors Mon, Tues, Thurs €10 per person before 12 noon. Buggy hire €15, must be pre booked.

Presentation of prizes
The presentation of prizes for Open Week Winners and all men’s competitions. will take place on Friday night 29 July at 9.30pm with music and food. All welcome.
The good news story of the week is the success of the Junior Foursomes team who qualified for the final of their competition.
The team had a great win over Abbeyleix on Wednesday last with the first two pairs winning on the 17 holes respectively.
The successful team members are Betty Owens and Margaret Furlong, Joan Brennan and Eileen Fogarty, Theresa Manning and Ita Madigan and they are ably managed by Emer Foley.
Open week is continuing with a big weekend of competitions ahead. All are welcome to the social night on this Fri July 29, for music, food etc.
