Theatre for all ages at Kilkenny Arts Festival

Gare St Lazare Players Ireland come to Barnstorm Theatre with the world premiere of Title and Deed; a new play by rising American playwright Will Eno described as a Samuel Beckett for the Jon Stewart generation by The New York Times.

Also at Barnstorm, The Big Deal by Una McKevitt, is based on an extraordinary real life story and scripted from original journals, poems, songs and interviews from two women who knew from a young age that they were born into the wrong bodies.

Corcadorca make their first visit to the festival with Request Programme, a show performed to a small audience in a city-centre apartment. Follow the everyday existence of the apartment’s occupant, her rituals and routine. Starring leading Irish actress Eileen Walsh of award winning film The Magdalene Sisters and RTE’s Pure Mule.

All the way from New York, Banana Bag & Bodice present the European premiere of their wildly-entertaining re-imaginging of the Old English saga Beowulf in the Set Theatre. Expect battles in the aisles and on top of tables at this half-theatre/half-concert experience.

For kids there’s Holy Mary at the Watergate Theatre. It’s an honest, unsentimental look at growing up by Eoin Colfer, author of the internationally-bestselling Artemis Fowl series. Moving, magical and hilarious, it is a must-see for children (aged 7-12 ) and adults alike.

And for the very young Star Boy in the Ormonde Hotel is about a small boy, a box and a big adventure. It is an early years theatre performance suitable for age 2 and-a-half and upwards.
