OUT For The Weekend, Kilkenny’s Gay Pride festival is returning this August for its second outing.
The festival will be launched on Saturday July 23, in Cleere’s on Parliament Street with a 90’s themed fundraiser. There will be food, prizes for best fancy dress and a full 90’s setlist of dance, rock and pop from DJ’s Push and Pop (also known as Ken McGuire and John Morton ).
Also on the night, the full line-up for this year’s festival will be announced. It promises to be an even bigger and better line up than last year’s successful inaugural event.
According to festival organiser Alan Slattery, this year’s OUT For The Weekend will help cement it as a regular fixture in Kilkenny.
“I felt there were no gay events happening in Kilkenny that sustained any kind of momentum. Instead of standing by I decided to organise an event that might become a focal point of Kilkenny’s cultural calendar,” he says.
Organised by a diverse team of volunteers, OUT For The Weekend is an all- inclusive festival that caters for gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgendered and straight people from all walks of life. The festival does not have any fixed funding and is dependent on donations from sponsors. Anyone interested in doing so can contact the team at sponsorship@outfortheweekend.ie.
For those who want to get more involved, OUT For The Weekend are also looking for volunteers to work on this year’s event. Anyone interested can put themselves forward by contacting volunteers@outfortheweekend.ie
The event takes place in Kilkenny from August 26– 28 and all information can be found at the festival website www.OUTForTheWeekend.ie Check out OUT For The Weekend on Facebook and Twitter.
