Many bands explode onto the music scene with one song and often fail to reproduce the magic that helped create their success in the first place. However, Dublin band The Republic of Loose has proved time and time again that they aren’t one of these bands. And the upcoming Dysart Festival which takes place on August 9 and 10 at Dysart Castle, Thomastown presents an unmissable opportunity to catch what promises to be a energy fuelled performance.
Following their huge summer hit ‘Comeback girl’ in 2006 the Loose has developed a reputation as one of the best live bands on the scene playing at the major music festivals as well as supporting some of the industry’s most renowned artists including The Neville Brothers, The Thrills, The Zutons, Scissor Sisters, Alabama 3, Snow Patrol, The Roots, and Dilated Peoples.
Boasting their own unique funky soulful sounds The Republic of Loose are undoubtedly one of the coolest, slickest, most creative and most talented Irish bands on the music scene at present. And why wouldn’t they be as lead singer Mick Pryo with his distinctive vocals, supreme rapping ability and subtle dance moves personifies cool.
Along with his fellow and equally talented band members, Benjamin Loose (bass and vocals ), Deco (keyboards ), Dave Pyro (guitar, vocals ), Brez (guitar, vocals ), and Andre Atunes (drums ) the Loose bring to the stage their own unique funky sound which is very difficult not to like.
Mick and Dave Pryo, who happen to share the same surname but are not related, first started working together in 1998. However it wasn’t until four more members joined them in 2001 that people took notice and the band started to enjoy some success.
After signing with Big Cat Records in 2003 they released their debut album ‘This is the Tomb of the Juice’ in 2004. Their second album ‘Aaagh’ featured hit records ‘Comeback Girl’ and ‘You Know it.’
The band’s eagerly anticipated third album ‘Vol IV Johnny Pyro and the Dance of Evil’ was released in May and so far has been very well received with their first single, the infectious song ‘I like music’ frequenting the airwaves for the past few months.
The album, recorded in various studios around Ireland including Grouse Lodge and Windmill Lane Recording Studios features a number of guest vocals from renowned US hip-hop artist Style P and Sinead O’Connor.
With 16 very different tracks this album once again shows the musical prowess of the of this exciting group and the mesmerising performance which will await everyone who heads to Dysart in two weeks time.
