News from the Village GAA Club

Senior clash

The senior panel scored a solid 2-14 to 0-14 win over Carrickshock in the Kilkenny senior Byrne Cup.

Best wishes to the Village senior panel and management team of Niall Rigney, Fran Whelan and Adrian Finan as they clash with neighbours O’Loughlin Gaels in the fourth round of the Kilkenny senior hurling league/championship this Friday in Nowlan Park at 7.30pm.

Junior B

The Junior B panel were in flying form as they took their first major scalp in the championship by comprehensively beating Bennettsbridge in the first round by 1-16 to 0-7.

From the throw in the Village stamped their authority on this fixture with a brace of Joe Murray points. The Village backs were very solid throughout with the half back line of John Meehan, Keith Ryan and Michael Neary in commanding form throughout.

Joe Murray was the main sharpshooter up front getting most of the scores but was ably assisted by Shane Egan and Harry Wallace on the half forward line. Well done to all the players and management on a fine opening championship win.

Mullen Minor Tourney

Teams from near and far travelled to Kilkenny for the annual Paddy Mullen minor hurling tournament in Larchfield last Saturday.

The group games proved to be very competitive throughout the morning. The shield semi-finals saw Kilmacud Crokes and Ballyboden St Enda’s come through to set up an all Dublin affair which Ballyboden St Enda’s won.

The cup final was a fantastic affair which saw the Village minors narrowly fall short to a physically strong Blackrock (Cork ) minor side. The final was a great display of skill and strength from both sides and the Village boys will take a lot from this performance and they now switch their focus to the upcoming championship campaign.

A big thank you to Liam Mullen and the Mullen family for organising this event. It is a true reflection of the work that the Mullen family put into this event each year as teams from all over Ireland look to enter this tournament each year.
