The Annual Convention of the Organisation of National Ex Servicemen and Women will take place this weekend at the Ormonde Hotel in Kilkenny from Friday June 10 to June Sunday 12.
An official civic reception will be held on Friday evening hosted by the Mayor of Kilkenny, Councillor Martin Brett, for the directors of the ONE and the organising committee.
The convention programme will commence on Saturday June 11 at the Ormonde Hotel from 10am with the AGM at 5pm.
The convention banquet will be held at the Ormonde Hotel on Saturday night at 8.30 for some 200 delegates, guests, and members. The guest speaker will be Nickey Brennan, former president of the GAA.
On Sunday morning delegates and members will assemble in uniform at Kilkenny Castle at 10am and march to St Mary’s Cathedral for Mass at 11am led by the ONE pipe band.
The convention Mass will be concelebrated by Bishop Freeman, Bishop of Ossory, and a ONE colour party and bugler will participate and render honours at Mass.
There will also be a visit to the convention hosts — James Stephens Barracks — at 12.15 on Sunday, and the convention will resume with the Investiture of the President at 2.30pm.
The James Stephens Branch is one the most active branches in the O.N.E. and over the past year has raised over €5,000 in support of the organisations homeless initiative.
New members are always welcome and the James Stephens branch in Kilkenny meets on the last Thursday of each month in Kilkenny Military Barracks.
