Fit4Life raise over €12k in 3-day event

Run Kilkenny for the Susie Long Hospice Fund, the event staged over the June Bank Holiday weekend by Kilkenny running group Fit4Life, raised over €12,000.

The event saw three marathons staged on each of the three days over the holiday weekend. A core group of outstanding individuals ran all three marathons and others who ran the half marathon and 10k distances joined them each day. Over 140 runners ran some part of the event and over 80 people volunteered their time to help stage the wholly voluntary initiative.

“We were overwhelmed by the response to the event” said Irene Henebry chair of the Fit4Life organising committee,

“There was a lot going on in Kilkenny over the weekend and we were really inspired but those who donated, those who came out to do the runs, the volunteers who helped us stage the event and the sponsors who donated goods. We would like to express a huge thank you to all who helped our efforts to raise money for this great cause particularly the Order of Malta and the Gardai.”

The eight brave souls who completed three marathons in 3 days were Irene Henebry, Deirdre Scott, Bregeen Murphy, Theresa Daly, Kate Giblin, Maura Dineen, Gerry Forde and Traviss Wilcox (UK ).

Commenting after the event, Tommy Roche fundraising coordinator with the Susie Long Hospice Fund said “This is a great boost to our fundraising and it also helped keep up awareness for the Susie Long Hospice Fund. It is a difficult time to be raising money and we rely heavily on the people like Fit4Life running events like to this to help us reach our target of €2m.

Fit4Life is part of Kilkenny City Harriers. It was created for people who are interested in doing fun regular exercise at a level suited to individual ability. All are welcome whether you are a walker, jogger or runner.

The organisers would like to sincerely thank the people who gave generously to help stage the event
