Cat Laughs comedians descend for weekend of laughter

The 17th annual Cat Laughs Comedy festival is set to bring more laughs to the June Bank Holiday weekend in Kilkenny from June Thursday 2 to Monday 6. With 44 acts in 66 shows across 13 venues, this year’s festival has something for everyone.

Laughs are set to continue late into the night at this year’s comedy festival in Kilkenny. With a plethora of exciting acts taking to the stage across the city, the fun is set to continue into the wee hours, so kiss your beauty sleep goodbye.

Friday night sees Limerick gangster rappers The Rubberbandits take over Langton’s from midnight. Their cult Christmas hit ‘Horse Outside’ had over 100,000 iTunes downloads and was viewed more than six million times on YouTube. Don’t miss out on the one late-night gig that will be the talk of the Marble City for years to come.

On Saturday, favourite Galway son and current king of the breakfast airwaves, Hector, picks up the late night baton from the Bandits with a gig in the Ormonde Hotel at 10.30pm, featuring fellow night owls Ardal O’Hanlon, Rich Hall and Tim Vine.

If that isn’t enough to ‘keep you lit’, then head to musical phenomenon Abandoman’s solo show at 10pm on Sunday in the Ormonde Venue Bar. This spontaneous hip hop duo improvises sketches at lightning speed, making each show a unique lyrical masterpiece. They were the hot ticket at last year’s Edinburgh Fringe and are not to be missed.

Still keeping up the pace? Then cool your heels downstairs at the Ormonde Hotel with the exclusive Cat Laughs Festival Club running on Saturday and Sunday from midnight till late. Saturday night features Dead Cat Bounce doing their awesome bootlegs set plus a DJ, and Sunday night features awesome tunes from DJ Sally Foran and late bar.

Gain access to the late night beating heart of the festival but don’t delay as tickets are on strictly limited release only - and note that access is for those aged 21 years and over.

Remember laughter is the best medicine so get out and have a laugh this June Bank Holiday weekend — and lighten the load.
