Steady trade at Kilkenny Mart

With 950 animals on offer, the trade at Kilkenny Mart could be best described as steady last Thursday. once again the quality lots did quite well, but the plainer types were a little more difficult to sell. The culled cows and the heifers also provided a steady trade.

Bullocks

The bullocks weighing over 600 kg made between €380 and €650 over their weight. A pair of Charolais weighing 655 kg made €1,275 each, while four Herefords weighing 695kg were sold for €1,090 each.

The bullocks weighing over 500kg had prices ranging between €220 and €590 also over their weight. Two Belgian Blues weighing 630kg were sold for €1,040 each, while three Freisians weighing 555kg fetched €845 each.

The bullocks weighing between 400 kg and 500 kg were priced between €220 and €410 over their weight. Four Charolais weighing 495kg were sold for €900 each, while ten Freisians weighing 420kg made €650 each.

The bullocks weighing under 400kg were sold at prices between €160 and €360 over their weight.

Six Simmentals weighing 395kg fetched €610 each, while a pair of

Herefords weighing 305 kg made €540 each.

Heifers

The beef heifers were sold at prices between €300 and €610 over their weight. Five Limousins weighing 510kg made €920 each, while a single Belgian Blue weighing 460kg was priced at €1,010.

The butcher heifers made between €250 and €380 also over their weight.

Five Charolais weighing 465kg fetched €740 each, while three Simmentals weighing 445kg were sold for €735 each.

The store heifers were priced between €160 and €310 over their weight. Six Belgian Blues weighing 415kg were knocked down at €705 each, while a pair of Simmentals weighing 395kg sold for €620 each.

Culled cows

The Freisian types made from €50 under their weight to €250 over, while the Continental types had prices ranging between €50 and €450 over their weight.

Simmental heifers

It is also worth noting that a number of Simmental cross breed heifers were sold at prices between €650 and €900 per head, while a number of pure -breds of the same breed made between €1,050 and €1,440 per head.

A number of Freisian heifers suitable for service made between €645 and €765 per head.
