Exhibition an encouragement for photography improvers

The work of 12 students of a local photography course was exhibited in MacDonagh Junction last month. Most of these students, being ordinary camera owners, completed the popular ‘Beginners in Digital Photography’ course and continued on to ‘The Improvers Photography Course’.

The 10-week course was completed in April and to complete the course the students were to present printed and mounted images on a chosen theme.

The Improvers course held in St Patrick’s Parish Centre and tutored by Amanda Burke, covers what a digital SLR or bridge camera owner needs to know so that they can be creative with their photography. Some of the most common issues that face photographers starting out with their digital equipment are such things as understanding aperture and shutter speed, metering and how light affects our photographs.

The course also covers advanced aspects of editing the digital image in Photoshop and similar applications in order to maintain quality and to decide how to enhance the original captured photograph where needed or desired.

The course is not just informative but it is also practical and fun. Exhibiting at the end of it adds to the enjoyment of being with an enthusiastic group of photographers who end up becoming friends.

‘The Improvers Photography Course’ starts again on Wednesday 11th May.
