Kilkenny crowned Leinster u12 football blitz champions

Kilkenny under 12 girls made the short journey to O’Hanrahans GAA club in Carlow on Monday last to take part in the Leinster U12 football blitz and caused a stir by blitzing some experienced opposition to be crowned Division 3 champions after a nerve wrecking shootout against Carlow. The Kilkenny girls have been part of under-14 training for the past six weeks and most of the panel played in the Primary schools league in recent years and on last year’s under 13 development squad.

Backboned by the Kilkenny City girls side which contested last week’s Feile Peil Na nOg final against Thomastown the girls were facing into new territory but were not fazed by more experienced opposition. The final scores were: Round 1— Kilkenny 1-04, Wexford 1-01. Round 2 — Kilkenny 1-07, Kildare 0-0. In the division 3 final Kilkenny 2-0, Carlow 1-03. (Kilkenny won 0-3 to 0-1 in a shootout ).

Kilkenny had plenty of support from a large crowd of parents and friends throughout the day and the excitement was fever pitch in a thrilling final played in glorious sunshine. Kilkenny were crowned Division 3 champions after a superb day’s football.

Leinster ladies football president Sean McMullin presented Captain Aobha O’Gorman with the cup and each player received a ladies football T-shirt to mark the occasion which will long live in the memories of a group of players who all have a great future in ladies football.
