Cajun Fest at Hole in the Wall

NovaScotia – the rockin’ new Cajun house-band at Hole in the Wall will be your sizzling entertainment this weekend for Rhythm and Roots 2011!

The six-piece band (Thierry Millet (sax ), Steve Reilly (guitar and vocals ), Dave Prim (bass ), Anthony Barrett (banjo, mandolin ), Michael Conway (percussion and vocals ) and Aishling de Cléir (vocals, accordion, fiddle and percussion ) was formed just over the past two weeks and has chosen the Cajun/Zydeco style of music which comes from Louisiana as its main influence.

Such music largely reflects the lament for loss of the French, evicted from Acadia (modern Nova Scotia ) by the English in 1750. This corresponds to that which happened to the Archer family of Hole in the Wall, High St, Kilkenny and the many Irish who were exiled by Cromwell one hundred years before in the 1650s. Cajun music has significant direct Irish influences stemming from Dennis McGee, who’s 1920 recordings of fiddle played reels is part of the DNA of the Louisiana swamp music repertoire.

NovaScotia. will play nightly at Hole in the Wall during the festival (April 29 – May 2 ). So, get your dancin’ boots on, pull your dungarees ‘n frilly skirts out of the closet and get on down for 9.30 pm! Admission 5e.
