Former Kilkenny stars Charlie Carter, Brian McEvoy and DJ Carey are making a final appeal to amateur cyclists from all over Kilkenny and surrounding areas to join them for a stage of the Race for Rás charity cycle next month.
The former inter-county hurlers are joining a host of well-known ex-GAA players, plus members of the public from all over Ireland, to cycle at least one stage of the 2011 An Post Rás tour of Ireland, which takes place from Sunday May 22 until the following Sunday.
The Race for Rás event is being held to raise funds for GOAL and The Irish Cancer Society.
The trio have agreed to bike the seventh stage of the race from Tramore to Kildare town on Saturday May 28, a stage that will take the riders from Tramore out to Piltown, Newmarket, Knocktopher and Thomastown, back to Dungarvan, out again to Kilkenny and the towns of Gowran and Paulstown, before continuing on to Carlow, Laois and the finish in Kildare.
Joining them on the stage will be former inter-county stars such as Brian Lacey, Anthony Rainbow and Bryan Murphy from Kildare; Laois’ Leo Turley, and former Wicklow star Kevin O’Brien.
