Hot House Flower returns for intimate gig

One of the much-loved Hot House Flowers, Liam Ó Maonlaí has confirmed he will play a very special intimate gig at the Hole In The Wall, Thursday March 24.

Liam Ó Maonlaí is an outstanding performer with an unbelievable stage presence. In Ennis in 1985 he and Fiachna O Braonain, with the enchanting presence of Maria Doyle Kennedy (appearing on April 9,at HITW ) won a music award called Gradam Shlogadh. This was the seed beginning of Hothouse Flowers, which went on to be one of Ireland’s most successful rock bands, releasing some seven albums. Liam remained faithful to his traditional roots throughout the years. ‘Traditional music does not belong to me. I belong to it. The same as the land.’

Liam has also travelled extensively in Australia, Japan, America, Europe, Scandinavia, Morocco and India and has played and continues to play with the traditional players of these places.

“I believe the style known as séan nos, carries a sense of the soul of the land and the people who are awake in that land.”

Most recently Liam O’Maonlai and Glen Hansard played two sold out shows in Whelan’s of Wexford Street in Dublin. Special guests on the night ranged from Christy Moore, Damien Rice and The Commitments no less, who knows who might pop along to the Hole in the Wall this Thursday, March 24!.

The evening with O’ Maonlai is part of a series of secret gigs that the venue intends to host in the coming months. Those who are regular frequenters to this fine establishment will be lucky enough to hear about these ‘secret’ gigs before they are even announced.
