Fun family Dog Walk in Kilkenny to help carers

Following the success of Ireland’s first National Dog Walk, which raised €40,000 for The Carers Association last year, Petmania is again asking dog owners to join them on Easter Monday, April 25, for the second annual event.

The National Dog Walk will see five kilometre walks starting from 13 of Petmania’s stores take place nationwide to raise vital funds for family carers. This year marks the second charity dog walk from Petmania at John’s Street, Kilkenny.

“We’ve been looking forward to the 2011 National Dog Walk since the first event last year. The Carer’s Association do amazing work, so we’re looking forward to getting lots of dogs and their owners out on the streets again this year,” said Stephen Brett, store manager, Petmania, Kilkenny.

Funds raised through the National Dog Walk go towards supporting the care provided by Ireland’s 161,000 family carers, who are often confined to home looking after their loves ones.

“We are hugely appreciative of Petmania’s support in sponsoring and hosting fundraising dog walks across the country,” said Emma Murphy of The Carers Association.

“While it is a super and fun day out for the whole family, the National Dog Walk raises much-needed funds to support the work of Ireland’s family carers.”

A host of excellent prizes are on offer, with the dog that raises the most money at the Kilkenny walk receiving one year’s supply of Dog Food from the National Dog Walk’s official nutrition partners, Royal Canin, valued at up to €1,500, depending on how much your dog eats!

The dog that raises the most money nationally will be able to whisk his or her family away for a fabulous five-night holiday, worth over €1,500, in the luxurious Harvey’s Point Hotel in Lough Eske, Co Donegal.

“Hail, Rain or Shine, the National Dog Walk 2011 will be the perfect way for all the family to walk off those chocolate eggs, and the team at Petmania look forward to seeing you on Easter Monday April 25 at 2pm.”

It costs just €5 for an individual and their dog to take part in the walk, or €10 for a family of four.

All participating dogs will be asked to raise sponsorship for their participation, and will be in with the chance of being crowned ‘Top Dog’ and win some fabulous prizes. Participants can register at their local Petmania store or Carers Association Centre or online at www.nationaldogwalk.ie
