Athlete, Kate O’Neill joined Irish track legend and race director, Eamonn Coghlan recently to launch the 2011 Kleinwort Benson Investors St Patrick’s 5k Festival Road Race which takes place in Dublin on Sunday, March 20.
Kate’s mother, Catherine 'Kitty' Shore, is from Coon, Castlecomer. Three of her sisters, Brigid, Helen and Noreen are still living in close proximity to their childhood family farm. All are keen GAA fans and great supporters of their county’s hurling achievements.
A member of the organising Metropolitan and St Brigid’s athletics club, Kate is calling on all Kilkenny runners to participate in the event, proceeds from which will go to the Marie Keating Foundation.
Timed to allow participants to travel from Kilkenny and back on the same day, the race begins at 12 noon from the Mansion House where it will be officially started by the Lord Mayor of Dublin, Cllr. Gerry Breen.
Open to elite athletes, fun runners and families alike, the event includes an entertainment programme that features a live band, jugglers, clowns, face painters, balloon artists, stilt walkers, fire eaters and a parade of motorbikes, to name but a few. Souvenir T-shirts and goodie bags will be given to all participants.
