Carlow family take fresh food to the limit with new takeaway

The legacy of the Rocca takeaway dynasty in Carlow has grown so much in the last 25 years that 27-year-old Onorio Rocca said the time had come for a second Rocca’s to open.

One month ago, Onorio and his partner Leona opened Rocca’s in Graigue Village in Graiguecullen.

And already they are bucking the trend of many restaurants and with hoards of hungry crowds clambering through their doors, they are cooking for hungry customers seven days a week from noon to midnight.

“We thought the village would be a good home for us, it is a very convenient area with plenty of parking, and we are busy so things can only get better from here,” said Onario.

Already welcoming new faces to the shop, Onario and Leona have also seen a lot of regulars from Lillian and Silvano’s Castle Hill restaurant.

“There have been a lot of well-wishers who have come to us, and a lot of the people who live near here are coming too,” he said. “We have to thank everyone who has supported us and Lillian and Silvano over the years too, may they all come over to see us!”

Although not yet offering delivery, Onario and Leona are still making those delicious fresh dough pizzas in their stone ovens and a diner-style addition to the premises is already underway.

Soon, diners hungry for the freshest ingredients and age-old Italian recipes, will be able to sit and savour all that Rocca’s menu has to offer. One of the most popular items on their familiar but newly-designed menu that is winning over customers, is their temptingly tasty chicken wrap retailing at just €3.90 - a huge hit with cash-strapped recessionistas!

With 12 staff to serve you, you are sure to get special friendly treatment at Rocca’s where delicious food is always served fast and fresh.

One Rocca not yet on the payroll however is gorgeous Sophia, Onario and Leona’s 15-month-old daughter, but Onario says it won’t be long before that changes.

“The sooner the better,” he laughed.
