People from Co Kilkenny have weird and wonderful vices valued at €13,489 Trocaire revealed this week.
The charity released the figures, which reflect sponsorship raised for ‘Give It Up For Trocaire’ last year, as it launched its 2011 campaign. Trocaire is challenging people to give up something they love, their greatest temptations or their worst habits on March 4 to raise money to change people's lives in the developing world. And judging from the amount raised by Kilkenny folk last year, there's certainly plenty of vices to be given up in the county.
Justin Kilcullen, director of Trocaire, explained: "Last year people from Kilkenny joined the nation in going for a day without things they love, or simply can’t be without – from their caffeine fix, a chocolate sugar hit in the afternoon or the mobile phone that never stops ringing. We’re asking local people to ‘give it up for Trocaire’ again on March 4 to help us fight poverty. In 24 hours it will all be over, but by taking part they'll have made a lasting difference to people who live without the basics every single day.”
