The U12 Girls from Club Kilkenny Basketball were in action at O' Loughlin Gaels on Saturday last. Teams travelled from Old Leighlin and Waterford to take part in the new U12 league format.
A decision was made that instead of travelling to games mid week, the U12's will play out their league in a blitz format. All the games are played on the weekends. This new format means that parents and children no longer have to travel to games on cold dark evenings. It also allows for better team support from family members and friends who have more time to attend games on the weekend.
In the first game on Saturday, Club Kilkenny took on Old Leighlin. Being the stronger team on the day, Old Leighlin won the game with a final score 26 to 14.
The Club Kilkenny Girls were much stronger in their second game against The Wild Cats who travelled from Waterford to Kilkenny to show their talents. Midway through the match the teams were level and playing at a very fast pace. It was a nail biting finish with superb play from both sides. The Wild Cats won out in the end. Coaches Pat Galvin and Lucy Ryan were very happy with the girls performance noting that the girls are improving game on game.
