Church gate collection and CD for Susie’s fund

The Susie Long Hospice Fund will hold a church-gate collection next weekend, Saturday 1 and Sunday 2 November outside churches throughout Kilkenny city and county. All proceeds from all of the collections will go directly to the Susie Long Hospice Fund, which seeks to raise funds and awareness to build a 10-bed hospice in Kilkenny for the Kilkenny and Carlow region.

Fundraising Co-ordinator Tommy Roche, announcing the collection, said “It is vital that we raise as much money as possible from this event to expedite the work on a hospice for all the people in the Kilkenny/Carlow region and everyone’s help will be central to achieving this”.

Meanwhile ‘Songs for Susie’, a CD featuring music by well-known Kilkenny-based artists and bands, including Kerbdog, Engine Alley, Good Tiger, RSAG and Little Black Wren was recently launched at the St Francis Abbey Brewery.

Sonya Lanigan, chairperson of the Susie Long Hospice Fund, said “We are really pleased and extremely grateful to all of the artists and bands for generously donating their work and time to create this CD. Susie loved music and she would be thrilled to know this CD has been made in her memory.”

Malcolm Noonan of the Susie Long Hospice Fund Committee added “Many of the musicians on this album got to know Susie from her loyalty to the music scene in Kilkenny. Whether it was the Rhythm & Roots, Kilkenny Arts Festival or just Sunday night in the Pumphouse, Susie was there. I would encourage everyone to buy this CD and support our vision for a hospice for Kilkenny and Carlow.”
