A twenty year-old man was disqualified from driving for one year after he took the keys of his father's hackney vehicle and drove it without being insured.
Michael Walsh, with an address of 47 Woodview, Freshford pleaded guilty to the offence which occurred in the Woodview area on February 2.
Supt Walter O'Sullivan told the court that gardaí stopped the defendant while he was driving the vehicle which was carrying five passengers at the time.
Solicitor for the defendant Eugene O'Sullivan said that his client's father, who owns the vehicle, was in hospital in Waterford the night the incident occurred.
Mr O'Sullivan said that his client received a request to bring six people home and took the keys to the vehicle from the kitchen table and drove it without his father's permission.
Judge William Harnett fined the defendant €500 and disqualified him from driving for one year.
