McGuinness gets promotion from new party leader

Kilkenny’s Fianna Fail Deputy John McGuinness has reaped the benefits of his loyalty to new party leader Micheal Martin having been awarded a front bench spokesperson position this week.

Deputy McGuinness has been allocated the position as party spokesman for small to medium enterprises.

Deputy McGuinness was previously demoted from his position as junior minister at the department of enterprise and trade following Brian Cowen’s controversial reshuffle of the cabinet in 2009.

During his time in this position Deputy Martin was Minister for Enterprise and Trade and the two enjoyed a good working relationship.

Deputy McGuinness will have a distinct advantage over coming weeks as he canvasses for Fianna Fail with the new title under his belt.

It is widely believed that Fianna Fail are facing a disastrous election campaign and it will be a tough battle for both Bobby Aylward and John McGuinness to keep their seats in Carlow Kilkenny.
