Meanwhile Liam Aylward MEP for Kilkenny has called for all EU member states to ensure that the 116 000 Missing Person Number is operational before the May deadline.
Speaking this week in the Parliament Mr Aylward said: “This hotline will offer help, support, and a potential lifeline for missing children and their parents, and for it to be effective it must be implemented uniformly across all the member states".
The 116 000 number is reserved everywhere in the EU for hotlines to report missing children and offer guidance and support to their families. EU member states are obliged to make every effort to ensure that the 116 000 hotline is activated by May 2011.
“The 116 000 hotline is fully implemented in only 12 member states and Ireland has not yet implemented the number. A half implemented service could potentially put children's lives in danger and member states, the Commission, and industry must work together to get this important service into operation.”
