A total of €7,615 was raised before Christmas by Kilkenny gardaí who took part in the Cops on a Donut Shop campaign in aid of Special Olympics Leinster.
The fun fundraising event took place in Kilkenny on Thursday December 23 and featured gardaí being held captive on the roof of a specially constructed mobile donut shop. The Kilkenny Gardaí pledged to stay on the roof of the donut shop until Kilkenny people stopped donating money.
The donuts were produced locally by Oldtown Bakery in Kilkenny, which is a successful business set up in 1999 by husband and wife team James and Joy Moore.
The Cops on Donut Shop event took place all day on High Street, Kilkenny, from 9am until 6pm on Thursday December 23. On the day, a pack of two donuts was available for €2 and a pack of six for €5.
The cheque was presented to the Special Olympics team at Kilkenny Garda Station on Tuesday night.
