Whitney impersonator wins K-factor

An 11 year old girl from Donegal living in Callan won the K Factor Singing Competition Grand Final on Sunday at Hotel Kilkenny.

The K Factor, Kilkenny's answer to X Factor for children, was organised as a fundraiser for Self Help Africa.

Over three hundred people attended the final in the dramatic setting of the Skyline Suite at Hotel Kilkenny to see 29 superb acts perform.

Following on from several auditions the previous weekend the judges Sharon Molloy, Kairen Waloch, Canice Kenealy and Paul McLoughlin had a difficult job on their hands but everyone agreed the winner was Maazi Madolo who sang Whitney Houston's 80's hit "I Wanna Dance With Somebody".

The judges gave special recognition to a number of acts in particular to young singer Alan Hayes who was a close second in the competition.

The event was sponsored by Broderick’s Music Warehouse (who provided the prize of recording studio time for the winner to record a CD ), Hotel Kilkenny (the venue ) and Starlight Stage Productions (organisers and co-ordinators ).
