A Dublin quartet with a taste for the quirky, Grand Pocket Orchestra will be joined by Kilkenny band Modern Rik on the stage at Cleere’s in the latest offering from Problems at the Pancake House promotions this Saturday.
GPO have set about turning the Irish indie scene into the international spotlight this year, after releasing their debut EP to great reviews and featuring on US compilation ‘Future Sounds’.
The band began touring venues in Ireland, the UK and Germany and their tracks were heard by German indie rockers The Notwist’s producer Mario Thaler, who later recorded tracks with the band at Dublin’s Apollo Studios, resulting in their October release, ‘Ballet Shoes’.
Modern Rik formed early in 2008 with the almagamation of members of local bands WeeDuggy and Cellar Door in search of a new sound. They take their influences from bands such as Kings of Leon, Biffy Clyro and Queens of the Stone Age.
GPO and Modern Rik will perform in Cleere’s Theatre on Saturday, October 25 from 9pm. Admission is €5. For more information on these two bands visit myspace.com/grandpocketorchestra and myspace.com/modernrik
