Kilkenny’s own theatrical trailblazers, the Devious Theatre company, will bring a screening of their popular production of Irvine Welsh’s ‘Trainspotting’ to Cleere’s this bank holiday weekend as part of the Rockfall Festival.
After opening to a packed house and receiving rave reviews for their June performance in the Watergate Theatre, the Devious crew are setting up shop in Cleere’s Theatre on Sunday, October 26 at 8pm.
The production was adapted by Harry Gibson and was the first time that the iconic work was performed in Kilkenny.
Set in 1980s Edinburgh and depicted mostly in monologues, the play follows self-loathing anti-hero Mark Renton (Ross Costigan ) as he tries to overcome his addictions that hinder his escape from a doomed life.
The stories at the heart of the play are unflinchingly shocking, darkly humorous and full of Welsh’s raw observations of life. For anyone who missed out on the June show this is a one-off chance to catch the production.
The screening will also feature a fly-on-the-wall documentary shot during the closing night of the Watergate run. Admission to the screening is €5 with proceeds going to the O’Neill Centre. All donations are equally welcome.
