Another big cattle sale in Kilkenny

With almost 1,100 cattle on offer there was another excellent selling trade at Kilkenny Mart last Thursday.

The heavy bullocks sold very well indeed with prices increased by between €10 and €15 a head on the previous week. The heifers and in particular the quality lots, all sold very well.

Bullocks

The bullocks weighing over 600kg made between €420 and a massive €860 over their weight. A Belgian Blue weighing 820kg was sold for €1,680, while seven Charolais weighing 620kg made €1,100 each.

The bullocks weighing over 500kg had a price range between €285 and €540 also over their weight. A pair of Simmentals weighing 575kg were sold for €860 each, while eight Limosines weighing 515kg made €1,010.

The bullocks weighing between 400kg and 500kg were sold at prices between €230 and €520 over their weight. Ten Simmentals weighing 450kg fetched €805 each, while three Limosines with a similar weight made €820 each.

The bullocks weighing under 400 kg were sold at prices between €220 and €465 over their weight. A pair of Limosines weighing 370kg were sold for €770 each, while six Charolais weighing 395kg made €680 each.

Heifers

The heifers also traded very well with the beef heifers making between €380 and €750 over their weight. A single Charolais weighing 630kg made €1,160 while a lot of three Charolais weighing 490kg were priced at €900 each.

The butcher heifers sold between €300 and €400 also over their weight with three Belgian Blues weighing 440kg making €760 each. A lot of seven Charolais weighing 480 kg fetched €875 each.

The store heifers were priced between €230 and €380 also over their weight. Three Belgian Blues weighing 443kg made €665 each, while a pair of reds weighing 335kg were knocked down at €660 each.

Culled cows

There were over 100 culled cows on offer with the continental types making between €50 and €450 over their weight. The Freisian types did not do as well selling from €100 under their weight to €300 over.

Overall last Thursday was quite a good day at Kilkenny Mart for all concerned.
