Buggy’s troops prepared for intermediate quarter-final showdown

Leinster intermediate hurling champions Dicksboro will travel to London this weekend to play Kilburn Gaels in the AIB GAA Hurling All-Ireland Intermediate Club Championship quarter-final.

Dicksboro enjoyed a very successful Leinster campaign with an 8-7 to 1-14 win over Kildalkey (Meath ) in the semi-final and beating Cellbridge in the AIB Leinster Club Intermediate Championship Final 5-9 to 0-8. With Leinster honours now behind them Dicksboro intermediate hurling manager Tommy Buggy is looking forward to this weekends action, “ This is exactly where we wanted to be, we were delighted to win the Leinster Final and now this is the bonus. We have kept training and going from game to game so now this is where the hard work will pay off —hopefully.”

The Castlecomer native doesn’t fear the opposition, “I don’t know too much about Kilburn Gaels, I know they have a few very good players and ex intercounty players, guys from Galway and Clare on their side. However, like all opposition you don’t fear it you just go for it and put in all you can to get the results you want.”

Mr Buggy is very impressed with his teams attitude and performance and is proud of what they have achieved, “The lads have been brilliant, they have the best attitude and fighting spirit. I am very proud of how they have played this year.” While the team is fit and there’s no injury worries two very important players can’t make the journey, “Unfortunately we will be without our full back and centre back who have commitments — David Glynn will be in the middle of exams and Kieran Cuddihy is out of the country, however the lads will still be in our thoughts on the day.” While some teams dread the long trips Dicksboro can’t wait for a few nights away in London, “We’re all looking forward to a few days away, it will be great for us all and come Sunday hopefully we’ll be celebrating. For now we’ll just focus on the task ahead and enjoy it all while we can.” Throw in is at 1.30pm in Ruislip on Sunday.

The team are travelling by bus and ferry leaving at 5.30 am from Palmerstown on Saturday, December 4, returning to Palmerstown at 8pm Monday, December 6. If anyone is interested in travelling with this group please contact Donal Carroll on 086 8265241.
