Don’t get discouraged by the cold weather

Although bad weather can make it that bit more difficult to try to keep fit during the winter, there are ways to overcome these difficulties.

It is easy to go back to bed in the morning after taking one look out the window — who would want to do anything in the wet or windy weather? The good thing is that it stays bright a little later, so we can enjoy longer days.

You should continue to take your daily walks in the winter if you can but before you leave, put on extra layers, and be careful as the pavements might be slippery.

Catching a cold is another thing you need to be wary of — it is very easy in this deceptive weather. Button up and stay warm and continue your walks if at all possible. The cold, crisp winter air will do wonders in staving off the viruses that plague our bodies over the winter months.

Remember not to treat outdoor activities as a chore or duty, but as something you need and should want to practice. The cold should soon give way to summer and you’ll be able to enjoy the sunshine and breathe fresh air again.

You’ll see that even a few minutes every day will make a difference. If you still find it hard to get out there, set a destination for yourself. Choose somewhere nice and cosy, where a group of your friends await you. That should encourage you to set off.
