Civic reception for sporting heroes

A civic reception is to be hosted in honour of Kilkenny hurling and camogie teams who brought the county such glory on several occasions this year.

Chairman of Kilkenny County Council Tomas Breathnach said, “this is an opportunity for us to signal our gratitude to our hurlers and camogie players who gave us a brilliant summer.”

“We were stunned by the latest display from our senior hurlers on All-Ireland Sunday and we thank God that we were shouting for the Kilkenny side. There is an ethos and an ethic that says good things about hurling and our county, and we must give this special recognition and afford these teams a civic reception,” said Cllr Breathnach.

The reception is to be the first major event to take place at the new swimming pool venue at Scanlon Park. This venue was chosen for its size given the numbers that will be attending the reception.

The reception will take place on Saturday evening, December 13, at 7.30pm. The members of the council will hold a special meeting and accord a civic reception to the seniors, intermediates, under-21s and minor hurling teams along with the winning intermediate camogie team.

It was also decided that the senior team manager, Brian Cody, would receive a special award for his achievements to date.
