A 19 year-old man paid the price for driving a defective vehicle at Castlecomer District Court this week.
Brian Gibson, with an address of Dounoghmore, Ballyraggett, Co Kilkenny, pleaded guilty to a number of road traffic offences including, no tax, no driving licence, illegal identification marks on the rear number plate, and driving a defective vehicle.
Garda Frances Dunphy told the court that she observed the defendant driving the vehicle at Hillside View, Castlecomer on January 31.
Garda Dunphy subsequently seized the vehicle when she observed that it had no tax. Accompanying officer Garda Brendan Power then drove the vehicle back to Castlecomer Garda station.
He told the court that he noticed the brakes were not in good working order and so Garda Dunphy requested that it be towed to Kilkenny Garda Station for a PSV inspection.
PSV inspector Garda Joe Robinson stated in his evidence, that the brakes were faulty and that the vehicle should not have been on the road at the time it was stopped.
Judge William Harnett fined him €1,250 and disqualified him from holding a driving licence for one year.
