Gala evening for Kilkenny Academy of Music

Kilkenny Academy of Music, founded by Paddy and Maura Rafter, is having a gala concert showcasing all the local talent who learn to sing, play piano, cello and violin under their careful instruction.

However this is their first time to have the concert in the Watergate Theatre. According to singer and instructor Paddy Rafter, moving to a bigger venue was essential as the increase in numbers could not be accommodated in smaller venues.

“The first concert actually took place by joining together two rooms in KAM in Threecastles but was a tight fit,” laughs Paddy.”

“And we are so happy to be in the Watergate with good room and facilities for both parents and students. Kilkenny people should feel proud of the achievements and talent of our local young people who are doing so well. We have students who have won competitions both locally and nationally but I feel it is more important that they develop musically and with confidence in their own abilities. We believe in an holistic approach to singing and music in general as people of all ages are welcome to come and study. We have people from five years old to 75 years old and we’re expanding in both directions,” he added.

Maura outlined what an audience can expect from the show.

“The show is sure to be a great event and fantastic entertainment. An audience can expect piano solos, duets, violin solos, cello and singers of every kind. There will be Puccini arias, musicals, opera duets, pop songs and duets. e even have a rock band or two. We extend a warm invitation to everybody to come along on Sunday next October 31, to the Watergate Theatre and see some fabulous local talent performing and have a great afternoon’s fun while also supporting local talent, local theatre and local music.”
